ISO 14001

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard for environmental management. The ISO 14001 Standard is designed to apply to every type of organisation and is focused on identifying and reducing environmental impact. Even an office-based business can find ways to reduce its impact on the environment, perhaps via energy efficiencies or reduction in waste.

Key Themes of Environmental Management

Operational Control

It’s important to have control over the organisation’s activities and although not essential, an ISO 14001 Quality Management System can be useful to structure the processes of the organisation.

Equipment maintenance and control of waste stream records such as transfer notes are also important to demonstrate legal compliance.

Environmental Aspects & Impacts

The standard requires the organisation to identify the aspects of it’s activities that have an impact on the environment and then plan to reduce that impact.

There are often many direct and indirect environmental aspects such as energy use, waste, company vehicles, use of couriers/haulage and even noise affecting the neighbours.

Legal Compliance Obligations & Evaluation

A key part of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System is the identification of legislation and other requirements which apply to the organisation’s aspects above.

Our legal compliance audit can help you identify the legislation that’s applicable to your Organisation, and measure how effectively you are meeting those obligations.

Environmental Objectives & Continual Improvement

As with all Management System Standards, ISO 14001 looks for continual improvement of the system, and setting measurable, achievable objectives based on the environmental aspects is an important part of this.

Externally Certified

Having your Environmental Management System certified by an external UKAS accredited assessment body publicly demonstrates your commitment to the environment and can give you a significant advantage when tendering for contracts. We can help you choose a certification body and guide you through the process.
